Point Washington Location & Homes for sale
Development in Point Washington is low density compared to Gulf-front communities, and thus conducive to full-time living. While development to the south is limited by Point Washington National Forest, home sites are still available for sale.
The community is located about 16 miles east of Destin and roughly 17 miles northwest of Panama City Beach, though residents can find numerous dinning, shopping and recreational opportunities in more nearby communities such as Grayton Beach and Santa Rosa Beach.
Visitors and homeowners alike have easy access to their favorite beaches through The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. It is only 22 miles northeast of Point Washington. The airport designation is ECP, and is the first international airport built in the U.S. since 2011.
Point Washington Recreation and Real Estate for Sale
Along with the recreational opportunities–such as boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, sailing, and, most especially, fishing–afforded by their proximity to Choctawhatchee Bay, Point Washington residents are within steps of the bounties offered by Point Washington State Forest and Eden Gardens State Park.
The 15,400-acre Point Washington State Forest is home to several distinct ecosystems, including cypress swamp, basin swamp, sandhill wet flat woods and wet prairie. The forest has a three- to 10-mile looped trail system popular with hikers and bikers, and overnight camping is allowed in special primitive campsites. A 27-mile greenway trail system that will link the forest with Grayton Beach State Park, Deer Lake State Park, Topsail Hill State Preserve and numerous residential developments is currently under development.
Eden Gardens State Park is famous for its 161 acres of majestic Spanish moss-draped live oaks, ornamental gardens filled with roses, azaleas and camellias, and an elegant turn-of-the 19th century plantation-style mansion. The 1895 antebellum-style “Wesley House” and surrounding gardens provide a historic perspective on what was an especially prosperous era along Florida’s northwest coast.
